CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP GALAS

Introduction

We made a few changes to the Club Championships for 2010 which largely remain in force.  There will be four main galas replacing normal training on Friday night, and a fifth ‘mini’ gala swum between training groups on the last night of the summer training times.  There are five main sets of events as explained below.

Championship Trophy Events

These events will be swum as a single event with a trophy for the overall winner and medals will be presented to the top three overall finishes.  In addition, for those events shown as men/boys or women/girls, a trophy will also be presented to the best junior (aged 16 and under) and medals presented to the top three juniors (aged 16 and under).. Three length races will be swum as heats and finals.  All other races of four lengths or more will be ‘heat declared’.  All heats will be seeded. These events are open to all swimmers

Championship Sprint Events

Each main gala will have a one length sprint race open to all swimmers.  These will be swum as a single heat declared event. Winners will be declared and medals will be presented to the first three swimmers in each of three age groups – 15 and over, 12 to 14 years old and 11 and under.  Heats will be seeded.  Any swimmers aged over 21 will also be awarded points towards the Brian Finnerty Aggregate Trophy (Men) or George Edowes Aggregate Trophy (Women), which will be presented after the fourth gala to the swimmer that has been awarded the most points across the four galas.

Aggregate Trophy Events

There are three age groups for the aggregate trophy events, 12 year olds, 11 year olds and one for 10 year olds and younger.  These events will remains as for previous years except that  youngest age group will now swim one length races, with the older swimmers swimming two length races with the exception of the 11 year old butterfly being only one length.  Heats will not be seeded and a final will be swum if required.  Medals will be awarded to the first three swimmers in each age group.  The first swimmer in each age group will be awarded 6 points, the second 5 points through to the sixth swimmer being awarded 1 point.  The points from the four galas will be aggregated and the swimmer, in each age group, with the most points will be awarded the aggregate trophy.

‘Starred’ Events

These are aimed at ‘novice’ swimmers and are open to swimmers in the width groups or in the first three lane groups at 7.30pm.  Events will be one length events for 11 year olds and for 10 year old and younger swimmers.  Heats will not be seeded and a final for each age group will be swum if required.  Medals will be awarded to the first three swimmers in each age group and in addition, place ribbons for the next three in the 10 year old and younger age group.  From the 2013 the Ron Faulkner Trophy will be awarded to the Girl with the best overall results throughout the year and the Ron Faulkner Cup to the best Boy.

Width Group Events

A special event will be swim specifically for swimmers in each of the width groups (irrespective of age).  Width 1 and 2 races will be one width races and will be swum prior to the main gala.  Place ribbons will be presented to the first six swimmers in each event.  Width 3, 4 and 5 races will be one length races.  Heats will not be seeded and a final will be swum if required.  Medals will be presented to the first three swimmers in each width and place ribbons for the next three.
